some dress ideas for the little ones

Its hard to choose when you see so many great ideas.  But try to narrow your choice down to what suits your dress and theme - whether the theme may be the colours, style, season etc.

Take a look at some really cute dress ideas i found.

A dear friend of mine asked me to get some purple wedding inspiration for her wedding coming up soon and this is what I found.
I never realised just how many ways you can use purple, it just seems like a really rich, overwhelming colour.  But I guess you gotta work with the different tones and shades and see what you can come up with.

Take a look and find your inspiration
(all the pictures i found through google, not sure exactly where, if i have not credited please let me know)

Wedding DIY

Wedding season is coming up and shopping for weddings is hard especially when prices go up closer to Christmas time.
Be smart when shopping.  Get ideas of what you want first. Scout around at shops to get ideas.  Sometimes you can get cheaper ways to do things.  I like finer details on things, especially in decor.  And with weddings it’s a nice touch, though some people might ask you ‘why are you wasting your money?’
Let’s start this week with serviette/napkin displays for table settings. .
Normally with table settings people display their napkins/serviettes in the same boring way – letting the napkin/serviette stand up out of the glass.
I like to find ways to do things differently but still be nice.
Idea 1 Using paper or board to make napkin rings.
What you’d need –
 Paper/board
                        Double sided tape
Scissors
Depending on what you want to cover it with - Ribbon/flower/photo/thank you note/note of your choice/attaching a tag to it
Method –
Depending on the size of your napkin/serviette cut the paper/board into strips.  You could even print a ‘banner like’ strip that goes around the serviette/napkin.  Check out the example ->

Doing this would kill two birds with one stone, a napkin/serviette ring and a thank you in one!
There are many ways to do this but if you get stick feel free to ask meJ
I have played around a bit trying to fold serviettes and tie them with ribbon to make them pretty.  A few ideas I came up with are below

more diy

I wanted to share some more ideas with you.  This idea i have seen quite a few times while looking up diy wedding decor.  its simple and cheap and looks so sweet.

Its tin can vases.  Cheap because youre saving money and recycling:) Great, well, just look at the pictures. Simple, it is wuite easy to make all you would need is patterned paper or fabric (you could even find a pretty picture on the net or customize and put your name and your future husbands name on it as well as the date of your wedding and voila - print!), glue, a pair of scissors and of course the can tins (you'd need to collect them over time if not ask around after people have had their coffee)

So as i have mentioned it is quite simple to make.  Take the cleaned tins, measure and cut the paper to fit onto them. Now glue the paper down nicely and securely (you could even use double sided tape). Make sure the paper overlaps, you wouldnt want the silver of the tin to come through.

And there you have it!

I cannot remember where i found this picture below but it looks sweet.

This picture i found on one of my favourite blogs - iwantthatwedding.co.za

diy :)

I’m not sure if you have noticed but i love looking up diy things, especially decor and even more so diy wedding decorJ
This particular do-it-yourself i found on lemontreecreations.blogspot.com;   the cutest little hanging doilies.

What you’d need to make your own
-          Paper doilies (can be found at pick n pay or shoprite or any convenience store like those)
-          Patterned paper (they used fabric but you could use wrapping paper or craft paper found at arts and crafts stores)
-          Glue
-          A sewing machine – you could sew it by hand but I am sure it will take longer to sew a straight line on paper
-          Paper clips

Instructions
-          Take one doily and cut out the middle and use it as a guide for cutting the patterned paper.

-          Take two doilies and put them on top of each other and use the two paper clips to hold it in place while sewing

-          Get a piece of round patterned paper and hold it on either side of the paper doilies, you will need to fold it in half to find the proper centre.  On that centre line is where you will be sewing.

-           Now in order for the doily to lay flat against the paper, using the glue, glue it down.

-          And there you have itJ adorable right?

You can make various sizes depending on what you want to use it for.

It could make a great bunting even as well as used as a garland.

Wedding photography inspiration part 2

I came cross another female photographer while on facebook and her wedding photos have a bit of an old school feel to them, which I like, because it somehow feels nostalgic.  Those kind of memories last a life time, which is exactly what you want for your wedding.  Take a look for some inspiration.

Photographer – Lameez SM Photography (blog - lameezsm.blogspot.com ).

Another photographer cool, female, Cape Town photographer I found while browsing around, Riefqah Petersen (website - riefqahpetersen.weebly.com).

Some inspiring words from South African designers

The future is in the past and the new way to decorate is to collect and curate – Neil Stemmet

Comfort, layers, scale, symmetry (or deliberate asymmetry) and proportion are the key elements in a good interior – Gregory Mellor

Push limits and teach clients rather than just give them what they want – Etienne Hanekom

Be true to who you are and surround yourself with things that make you happy. Mix old and new, expensive and inexpensive.  Not everything needs to be the newest, best, trendiest.. – Che Hooper (Interior Designer from Durban)

Make your own stencil in 3 easy steps

You know I like to research things and I came across the stencilling.  I then decided to take a chance and see if I could do it. I honestly have been thinking about doing it for some time because it looked a bit hard, but it’s really not.  Well maybe depending on the pattern you want it could be.  The entire project cost me R60, because I already have my cutting board from my studies as well as paint.
What you’d need is reasonably thick plastic (this you can get at any place that sells plastic covers for notes), enough to cut with an nt cutter; a thin tip permanent marker; an nt cutter (of course); a cutting board (if you don’t want to spend money on this, find a flat clean surface. And it has to be one that you can cut on because the knife is quite sharp it will definitely leave cuts on the surface). In my photo you’ll see I used a piece of cardboard to cut on. It was harder to cut on because the knife kept going right into the board.  And the last two things you’d need is the pattern you would like to turn into a stencil and paint to paint onto a surface (your colour of choice).

Step 1
Take your pattern and place the plastic over it, like you are going to trace it.
Using the permanent marker draw the pattern, slowly, you do not want to rush through this.  Remember the stencil can be used for a while so taking your time will pay off.
Once the tracing is done onto the plastic, move onto step 2.
Step 2
Place the cutting board on a clean hard surface and place the plastic on it.  Using the nt cutter, start cutting out the pattern (I think I found this pattern on the home-dzine site).
As you can see I only cut out a small portion of the pattern just to show you how it works.
You have to take your time cutting because making a mistake could cost you the plastic as well as time.

Step 3
            You have made your stencilJ
Now to test it out.  If you have cellotape or masking tape, stick the stencil onto paper or board and paint over it, make sure not to use too much paint on the brush it might just seep under the stencil.
And there we are our first stencilJ

Some times when you can’t decide on which colours and things go together these do really help.
I’ve looked up a few for you to be inspired by-enjoy!

White with a splash of pink

Lace – lace details look girly and gives it a bit of a Spanish feeling.  Try looking for lace fans and doilies

This is not necessarily for weddings but the colours are so sweet! *found at iwantthatwedding.co.za* -> totally love this site

Grey and pink

Here the flowers are the main and only colours and it looks great

Creams and soft colours work magic

When i think green i think fresh and clean

Winter themed inspiration board – blues, greys & whites

In winter dark colours are great.  But finding a balance is important

Purple is another great colour – for all seasons.  Just mix it up with different colours for the seasons.

For advice and where to find things to make your wedding look as similar as possible to any of these, please feel free to askJ
